Dean and Jason Bradley fail in further murder appeal bid

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Dean and Jason Bradley failed to persuade the Supreme Court to hear further appeals against their convictions for the murder of Neil Reilly. The proceedings were reported on 20 February 2023.

In a recently published determination, Mr Justice Peter Charleton, Mr Justice Séamus Woulfe and Mr Justice Maurice Collins said none of the grounds justified a further appeal. The brothers’ earlier Court of Appeal challenge, which was dismissed, alleged errors in the trial judge’s directions to the jury and argued that a prosecution witness should not have been allowed to give evidence.

Reilly fired two shots at the Bradley family home on 18 January 2017. The jury at the Central Criminal Court heard that, during a confrontation in Lucan afterwards, Jason Bradley delivered chopping blows to Reilly before Dean Bradley drove a BMW over him.

Dean and Jason Bradley pleaded not guilty to murder. They were convicted by a unanimous jury verdict and sentenced to life imprisonment on 18 July 2018 for murdering Reilly at Esker Glebe, Lucan.

Their father Paul Bradley and brother Ryan Bradley also pleaded not guilty to murder. Paul was acquitted by the jury, while Ryan was acquitted by direction of the trial judge. Ryan pleaded guilty to impeding the murder investigation and was ultimately given a fully suspended five-year prison sentence.
