David Taylor's allegation that he was directed to brief media against Maurice McCabe was denied by Martin Callinan at the Charleton Tribunal, reported on 21 May 2018. Callinan said it was “absolutely not the case” that Taylor was directed to brief journalists that McCabe was motivated by maliciousness and revenge. The tribunal was also told that Callinan denied making derogatory remarks about McCabe, including an allegation that he had abused his family. Callinan said the earlier investigation into McCabe had ended when the Director of Public Prosecutions directed no prosecution.
