David Cully was found guilty of murder at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 10 July 2015. The jury convicted him of killing his uncle, Edward O’Connor, who died from two gunshot wounds to his back. Cully had admitted manslaughter but denied murder. He is due to receive the mandatory life sentence on 29 July, when victim impact statements are scheduled to be heard.
The court heard that Cully shot O’Connor in the back after an organised fight involving two other men at Ballycoolin Road, Finglas West, on 15 December 2013. His defence of provocation, based on a comment he said O’Connor made, was rejected by the jury.
