The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Dara Deasy’s complaints of racial discrimination and racial harassment against Princes Investment Ltd. The proceedings were reported on 25 April 2024.
Deasy alleged that general manager Stephen Quinn asked whether he knew Kung Fu after learning one parent was Chinese, and later called him a Chinese expert. Quinn denied using those terms, discrimination or harassment, saying he had asked about Deasy’s knowledge of the cuisine.
Adjudicator Gaye Cunningham found that Deasy was not met by a racial slur during his employment and rejected both complaints under the Employment Equality Act 1998.
