Dan Flynn was sentenced to five years for raping a six-year-old child by the Court of Appeal on 3 February 2020.
Flynn had pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping the child at his home in 1979. The Court of Appeal found his earlier sentence unduly lenient after an appeal by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court said the new sentence reflected the increase arising from the DPP appeal, with mitigation including Flynn’s age, medical condition and guilty plea.
