Court hears Arklow attack victim needed 13 stitches, as Dublin men apply for bail
The Wicklow PeopleDylan Deegan (28) of Apartment 10 Block 1B, Citywest Quarter, Tallaght, Dublin 24 was granted bail under strict conditions. Mr Deegan was charged with an assault causing harm at Abbey Street, Arklow to Jason Douglas, and with entering a building known as 22 St Bridget’s Terrace in Arklow as a trespasser and attempting to commit assault on July 10, 2025.
Gary Kelly (47), of Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght, who is also charged with assaulting Mr Douglas, applied for bail but was refused and remanded in custody. The third accused, Gary Hedderman (38), of Carrigmore Crescent, Tallaght, did not apply for bail and was also remanded in custody.
During the hearing, gardaí objected to Deegan’s bail application citing concerns he might try to interfere with the victim, Mr Douglas, who needed 13 stiches after the alleged incident.
Judge David Kennedy granted Deegan bail on strict conditions that he reside at his current residence, observe a curfew, stay out of Wicklow with an exception for court dates, and that he not have any contact with any of his co accused and the victim of the alleged assault Jason Douglas. The judge also imposed a surety bond of €750.
Mr Kelly was refused his bail application after he was willing to put up a large cash surety.
Judge Kennedy cited concerns over his likelihood to appear for future court dates.
All three men are expected to appear again in front of Bray District Court on September 10, 2025.
