Conor Quaid’s appeal against his rape conviction was dismissed by the Court of Appeal in a judgment delivered on 22 June 2022.
Quaid had pleaded not guilty to rape at a place in Kerry on June 10, 2018. A jury convicted him by a 10-to-one majority after a seven-day trial at the Central Criminal Court in Cork in September 2020.
Ms Justice Mary Rose Gearty sentenced him to six-and-a-half years’ imprisonment. At the appeal hearing on March 11, his counsel argued that the jury had been wrongly directed about recklessness and pressured towards a verdict; the Court of Appeal rejected those grounds. The proceedings were reported on 22 June 2022.
