Conor McGregor has been ordered to pay the entire legal costs of a woman’s civil case against him, estimated at €1.5m, following a High Court jury’s finding that he assaulted her at a Dublin hotel.

The jury awarded the woman €248,603 in damages. She alleged that McGregor raped and assaulted her at the hotel in December 2018. McGregor denied the allegations, saying they had fully consensual sex, and denied causing her bruising. He later said he would appeal the decision.

The woman also alleged that co-defendant James Lawrence sexually assaulted her. The jury found that Lawrence did not assault her. Justice Alexander Owens ruled that she should not be liable for Lawrence’s costs, saying the defendants had filed a joint defence and operated in lockstep.

The judge said he had not yet decided whether to institute contempt proceedings over McGregor’s social media posts after the trial. The matter was due to be discussed at a hearing on 16 January.
