Conor Hynes denied extra compensation for unfair dismissal

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Conor Hynes was awarded €24,840 for unfair dismissal by the Workplace Relations Commission, in a decision published on 11 May 2022.

The WRC rejected his separate €72,000 claim for increased construction costs, finding there was no evidence he had committed to starting the building work before his dismissal.

The commission found Hynes had made a protected disclosure about the lack of protective equipment for workers entering private homes during the Covid-19 pandemic, and that his dismissal was unfair.

The award was subject to deduction of any redundancy payment, for which Hynes had not provided details.
