Woman who kicked garda in head placed on probation bond

A 45-year-old woman who slapped one garda and kicked another in the head has been placed on a one-year probation bond.
Roisin O’Grady, of Monkstown Road, Monkstown, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dún Laoghaire District Court to assaulting a garda and to public order offences.
The court heard that on November 13, 2024, gardaí were alerted by security staff that Ms O’Grady was heavily intoxicated and unsteady on her feet at Balally Luas stop, Dundrum, Dublin 16. The court heard that she slapped a garda while being transported to Blackrock Garda Station.
A prosecuting sergeant told Judge Anne Watkin that while in custody at the station, Ms O’Grady used abusive and derogatory language and had to be restrained before kicking a garda in the back of the head.
The court was told that Ms O’Grady has a history of alcohol-related offending and has three previous convictions, all for being intoxicated in a public place. However, she has not had any convictions in over 10 years.
Defence counsel, Michael O’Brien BL, said Ms O’Grady entered treatment last year, has been cooperating with the probation services and has no issues with illegal or prescription drugs. He told the judge that alcohol misuse is at the root of her difficulties.
Judge Watkin noted the seriousness of assaulting gardaí and placed Ms O’Grady on a one-year probation bond.
