Man charged with criminal damage during Iranian Embassy protest

A man accused of causing €2,000 worth of damage after kicking a car while protesting outside the Iranian Embassy in south Dublin has been released on bail.
Dún Laoghaire District Court heard that the damage was caused to a grey 2020 Mercedes at the embassy on Mount Merrion Avenue, Blackrock, at around 1.40pm on Tuesday.
The court heard the embassy car was being driven at the time and that no one was injured.
Saeid Khosroabadi (41), of Seville Place, Dublin 1, has been charged with criminal damage.
Garda Niall McGraynor told the court that it is alleged Mr Khosroabadi damaged the car by kicking it three times during a protest at the embassy.
He said that by the time gardaí arrived at the scene, Mr Khosroabadi had left.
Gardaí later went to his home where he was arrested and taken to Dundrum Garda Station.
The court heard that Mr Khosroabadi spent the night in custody and was fully co-operative with gardaí.
Judge Conor Fottrell accepted jurisdiction in the case.
Mr Khosroabadi was released on bail on condition that he stay away from the embassy at all times and remain out of the Blackrock area.
Michael O’Brien BL, for the defence, requested CCTV footage of the incident.
An application for legal aid was granted and the case was adjourned to April 13 at Dún Laoghaire District Court.
