Cloverhill Prison refuses to produce unnamed accused for trial

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

An unnamed accused was not produced for trial at the Central Criminal Court on 17 November 2021, after Cloverhill Prison Governor Anthony Harris said a Covid-19 outbreak made production unsafe.

The accused’s case was listed for trial, but Mr Justice Paul McDermott declined to order his production. The case was listed for mention on 19 November 2021.

Harris said most of Cloverhill was closed, with prisoners behind doors apart from small groups providing essential services. He also reported outbreaks at Midlands Prison and part of Mountjoy Prison; Wheatfield was described as sterile.
