Christopher Wiggins moved to appeal his conviction for possessing cocaine for sale or supply at the Court of Appeal on 11 May 2015. The conviction followed the discovery of 1.9 tonnes of cocaine aboard the Dances With Waves, 250km off the Irish coast, in 2008.
Wiggins, who had pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, argued that the offence could not apply because the boat was outside the State and that the boarding was unlawful. The Court of Appeal reserved judgment.
