Christopher Nugent was sentenced to four and a half years, with the final 12 months suspended for two years on strict conditions, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court by Judge Orla Crowe on 24 October 2023 for possessing cannabis for sale or supply. The offence occurred at Drumfinn Road on 1 August 2020.
Nugent pleaded guilty to one count. The proceedings were reported on 24 October 2023. The court heard that gardaí observed him driving on Drumfinn Road before a co-accused handed him a black bag containing 3.96kg of cannabis valued at €79,204.
The defence said analysis found the cannabis was low grade, Nugent had no financial interest in it and was due €100 for his role, although an investigating garda said that payment had not arisen in interview. The court also heard he had taken a trial date to allow time for drug analysis, had no recent garda attention and that his conviction could affect his security licence.
