A man who stole a chicken fillet roll and a packet of Doritos from the same shop on the same day has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Josh Pain (27) of 12 Kilcarn Court, Navan, Co Meath pleaded guilty to two counts of theft at Gala on Main Street in Bray. Mr Pain was supported in court by his social worker.

The court heard that on November 9, 2024, Mr Pain entered the store, he then ordered a chicken fillet roll to the value of €4.50. Mr Pain then concealed the item and left the shop without paying. Later on the same day Mr Pain entered the same premises. He then took a packet of Doritos and dipping sauce to the value of €7, he left without paying for a second time.

The court was informed that Mr Pain has numerous pervious convictions, with his last sentence coming at Mullingar District Court where he was handed a five month sentence for criminal damage.

The solicitor for the defendant told the court that her client has struggled from an addiction to cocaine and has been involved with a rehabilitation project since June 2025. She added that "the matter is trivial compared to others before the court".

The court sergeant informed the court that Mr Pain has come to the attention of gardaí in various jurisdictions since his arrest.

Judge David Kennedy handed down a sentence of nine-month’s imprisonment, suspended for two years. Judge Kennedy gave Mr Pain a stern warning: "If you come before me again I will have no issue sending you to prison.”
