Celyn Eadon received consecutive sentences totalling six years, with the final two years suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 14 July 2023. The assaults took place on Malahide Road, Artane, on 1 January 2023.
Eadon pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing harm. He assaulted two men in separate, unprovoked attacks, ten days after his release from prison in early January 2023.
Patrick Gageby SC, defending, said Eadon had an acquired brain injury from a long history of alcohol and drug abuse, causing significant cognitive impairments that could not be fixed or remitted. He said the assaults were not done out of malice or pleasure but were a by-product of the injury. Judge Martin Nolan said the two unprovoked, violent assaults had occurred because Eadon could not control himself, and that his condition was permanent.
Judge Nolan made the suspended portion conditional on Probation Service supervision after release. Eadon had eight previous assault convictions, most incurred while he was in custody.
