This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Cathal Dervan’s final day as the FAI’s public relations and communications director was 28 April 2025, after an agreement in principle over his workplace rights complaint. His departure was confirmed and reported on 29 April.
The complaint had been taken to the Workplace Relations Commission. At a hearing on 13 February 2025, the commission adjourned the case for six weeks after the FAI and Dervan agreed terms in principle, with withdrawal of the complaint contemplated after that period and a right to countermand.
The complaint’s particulars were not opened at the hearing, and the legislation under which it was lodged was not disclosed in The Irish Times’ contemporaneous report. An Irish Examiner report said it involved two pieces of legislation and centred primarily on an alleged alteration of Dervan’s duties without his consent, under the Terms of Employment (Information) Act 1994.
