Careless-driving sentence for motorist who hit e-scooter rider remains pending

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Svetoslav Trifonov, 46, pleaded guilty to careless driving causing serious harm after driving through a red light on Dublin’s Malahide Road and striking a woman riding an e-scooter across a pedestrian crossing. He had originally faced a charge of dangerous driving causing serious harm. The plea was accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions and the injured woman.

At his sentence hearing, his barrister asked Judge Orla Crowe not to disqualify him, saying his bus-driving career depended on being able to drive. The court heard that Trifonov had no previous convictions and that the woman continued to experience physical effects from her injuries. Judge Crowe adjourned the case to March 4 for finalisation.

This case may have concluded differently. The outcome has not yet been confirmed by a public source we could find.
