By Eimear Cotter, Independent.ie

A careless driver collided with a motorbike as he came out of a car park, leaving the biker with two broken wrists and a shattered hip, a court heard.

Rimgaila Sipavicius (64) tried to avoid the biker by going onto the hard shoulder, but he knocked him off the bike.

Judge Stephanie Coggans convicted and fined Sipavicius €300, but did not ban him from driving.

The defendant, with an address at Pinewood Green Lawns in Balbriggan, Dublin, admitted careless driving at the R127 Skerries on July 13, 2024.

Sipavicius was originally charged with dangerous driving, but the judge accepted a plea to the lesser charge of careless driving.

Garda Brendan Maguire told Balbriggan District Court that Sipavicius was turning out onto the R127 road but he failed to see a motorbike.

Gda Maguire said the biker spent two months in hospital recovering from his injuries

He then tried to avoid the biker by going onto the hard shoulder but he struck him, leaving the biker with a shattered hip and two broken wrists.

Gda Maguire said the biker spent two months in hospital recovering from his injuries.

Gda Maguire said Sipavicius was coming from a car park, and it appeared a motorist entering the car park beckoned him out. However, he failed to see the biker.

The court heard the defendant had no previous convictions.

Defence lawyer Michael Daly said Sipavicius was fully insured at the time of the incident, and had a previously unblemished driving record.

Mr Daly said Sipavicius, a father of three, was a decent man who had made an error of judgment, and was very sorry for what had happened.
