Businessman Brian McDonagh accused of breaching bail over alleged firearm incident
The Wicklow PeopleA Dublin businessman has appeared in court, after gardaí claimed he breached conditions imposed in a case involving an alleged firearm incident during the repossession of his former home.
Brian McDonagh (65), with an address in Limekiln Road, Manor Estate, Dublin 12, appeared before Wicklow Circuit Criminal Court on an application to have his bail revoked.
Detective Garda Shiggins testified that on February 24, 2025 at Drummin House, Delgany, Co Wicklow, the former property of Mr McDonagh, various law enforcement personnel attended the premises to assist in the repossession of the home. Det Shiggins told the court it is alleged that Mr McDonagh pointed a firearm out his window in an attempt to intimidate those involved in the repossession.
Mr McDonagh is charged with the production of a firearm, namely a shotgun, possession of a firearm, and wilfully obstructing or interfering with a sheriff contrary to Section 110 of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023.
The court heard that in October, Mr McDonagh was made aware that his bail conditions required him to stay away from Drummin House and its grounds, and to sign on at Greystones Garda Station every Monday and Friday.
Det Shiggins told the court that Mr McDonagh is alleged to have breached these conditions in October. He was arrested at the scene and later brought before Bray District Court.
The court heard that gardaí allege Mr McDonagh made admissions to fixing a legal notice on the gate of the gate lodge on the Drummin site, which was described as a large house on a substantial plot off the N11 just before Glen of the Downs.
It was noted that Mr McDonagh has no bench warrant history.
Counsel for the defence, Justin McQuade, instructed by Michael O’Connor, told the court that his client is a family man and argued that gardaí were seeking a second bite of the cherry by trying to revoke his bail.
Mr McQuade BL said Mr McDonagh had previously been granted bail on two occasions and had not returned to the property while on his current bail.
Judge Patrick Quinn directed Mr McDonagh to provide the court with his phone number, reside at an address in Dublin 12, and sign on at Greystones Garda Station twice a week.
The matter was adjourned to January 13, 2026
