James Joseph Jordan and Patrick Fintan Jordan were each sentenced to nine and a half years for rape and indecent assault against their niece, Sabrina Fox. The judge suspended the final year of each sentence on strict conditions and imposed a three-year post-release supervision order.
The brothers pleaded guilty to offences committed between 1986 and 1991, beginning when Fox was eight or nine and continuing until she was 13. The judge said the repeated offending was aggravated by the brothers’ positions of trust and Fox’s vulnerability as a child.
Fox told the court that after she disclosed the abuse to her mother, she was told to try to forget it. She described the lasting effects of the abuse in a victim impact statement. The judge praised her courage in coming forward and said the guilt and shame rested with the defendants.
