The Workplace Relations Commission awarded Bridget O’Reilly and her family €22,000 for Traveller discrimination by Charleville Park Hotel, reported on 2 March 2022.

The award comprised €8,000 each for O’Reilly and Philip O’Neill, and €3,000 each for their two children.

The family had sought three nights’ emergency accommodation in Charleville, County Cork, but the hotel required a credit card in the name of the person seeking accommodation.

The adjudicator found that Traveller community membership was a material factor in the refusal, and directed the hotel to revise its credit card booking policy.
