Barristers raise court crowding concerns during Covid emergency

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Criminal barristers raised concerns about crowding, social distancing and access to hand sanitiser at the Central Criminal Court during the Covid-19 emergency. The proceedings were reported on 23 March 2020.

The Courts Service said an unexpected emergency application had interrupted its plan and led to an unforeseen gathering near the court. It said it intended to stagger lists further, notify people in advance and organise those waiting into socially distanced spaces from the following morning.

The service said most cases had been adjourned and did not require participants to attend court.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
