Garda human-resources chief John Barrett told the Disclosures Tribunal on 5 February 2018 about workplace concerns Maurice McCabe had described to him at a meeting in February 2015.

Mr Barrett said McCabe told him conditions at Mullingar Garda Station worsened after former commissioner Martin Callinan publicly criticised his actions in January 2014. McCabe said colleagues felt supported in targeting him, and that he became nervous and slept for about two hours a night.

Barrett said he found McCabe credible during their February 2015 meeting. The tribunal also heard that senior Garda management discussed McCabe’s workplace concerns after that meeting, while a superintendent gave evidence about an inaccurate letter concerning an earlier complaint.
