Barbara Coyle was awarded €25,000 for unfair dismissal by the Workplace Relations Commission in a decision dated 3 January 2023.
The WRC found that her dismissal by telecoms company The Blackdog Communications Ltd was unfair, rejecting the company’s position that it arose from a genuine redundancy.
The adjudication officer said the company retained Mr Wilson as a consultant to run the business after Coyle was removed as a director, and found no genuine change supporting redundancy.
The decision records that Coyle’s employment ended on 20 May 2020 and that she had been on lay-off since October 2019. The WRC said serious allegations communicated to clients had never been substantiated by an investigation.
