Banned driver ‘not getting the message’ and drove daughter to train station, court hears

A banned driver foolishly got into her car and drove her daughter to the train station, a court heard.
Mariama Bah (45) did not appear to be getting the message that she could not drive without insurance, her lawyer said.
Judge Stephanie Coggans ordered Bah to complete a pro-social driving course and adjourned sentencing to a date in September.
Judge Coggans told Bah it was outrageous that she was driving without insurance, and she faced going to jail.
Bah had two previous convictions for uninsured driving
Judge Coggans said the general public needed to understand that they cannot drive while disqualified or without insurance.
The defendant, with an address at Dún Saithne Avenue in Balbriggan, admitted driving without insurance or a driving licence at Drogheda Street, Balbriggan, on April 4, 2026.
Sergeant Michael McGreal said Bah had two previous convictions for uninsured driving, and was banned at the time she was stopped.
Balbriggan District Court heard that Bah worked as a carer but was currently on sick leave.
Defence solicitor Paul Molloy said the defendant was driving her daughter to the train station so she could attend an appointment.
Mr Molloy also said Bah would benefit from completing a driving course, as it appeared his client was not getting the message about having insurance.
