Bail for man (60s) in court on sexual assault charges

A Donegal man, charged with eight counts of sexual assault, has been remanded on bail after appearing at Letterkenny District Court.
The man, who is in his 60s, cannot be identified for legal reasons.
The offences, which come under Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990, occurred between 2019 and 2022.
At today’s court sitting, Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle made no objections to bail but he asked for a number of conditions to be set by the court, including that the defendant sign on at a Garda Station twice a week between the hours of 9am and 7pm.
The defendant must keep his mobile phone on him at all times, so gardaí can contact him, and he must also make no contact with anyone involved in the case, or commit any further offences.
Sergeant Doyle added that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the matter go before the Circuit Court and the man will return to court in December.
