B.V.’s appeal against rape and sexual assault convictions was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 29 January 2018.
The convictions followed findings relating to offences alleged against his stepdaughter. The appeal challenged the admission of confrontation evidence, the absence of a corroboration warning and directions given to the jury foreman.
The court held that the confrontation evidence was relevant and admissible, that a corroboration warning was not required, and that the trial judge’s observations about the jury foreman were not improper.
