Aoife Maguire denies attempting to delete Anglo account records
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Aoife Maguire was on trial alongside former Anglo Irish Bank chief operations officer Tiernan O'Mahoney and former company secretary Bernard Daly at the Circuit Criminal Court. All three deny the charges. The proceedings were reported on 14 July 2015.
All three were accused of trying to delete references to two accounts belonging to John Peter O'Toole, brother-in-law of former bank chairman Sean FitzPatrick. Bernard Daly and Tiernan O'Mahoney also denied omitting his name from a list of non-resident account holders supplied to Revenue. Tiernan O'Mahoney and Aoife Maguire denied attempting to delete six other accounts connected to Sean FitzPatrick. The alleged offences dated from 2003 and 2004.
Former head of IT Michael Campbell gave evidence about screenshots showing that the systems login “mc9” was used to change John Peter O'Toole's account address in 2003. He said nobody outside IT should have had access to that login and it should not have been used to change an address on the live banking system.
Michael Campbell said Tiernan O'Mahoney requested removal of transaction descriptions from an Isle of Man customer's account in 2002/2003. He considered the request unusual but had no problem with it because the descriptions had no financial significance and the transactions would remain. He said nobody had asked him to delete bank accounts.
Revenue witness Paul Crowley agreed under cross-examination by lawyers for Tiernan O'Mahoney that Revenue was relatively relaxed about delivery dates. He identified 31 October 2003 as the final deadline and said he emailed Anglo on 3 November 2003 confirming final delivery of information requested under a High Court order.
Their PA, Nichola Goddard, said Tiernan O'Mahoney did not use email; she handled some matters for him, printed others or brought them to his attention. She said Bernard Daly did not use a computer and she could not recall his desk computer ever being switched on.
The trial adjourned for the day. The report said the prosecution case was expected to finish the following Monday.
