By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Aoife Cleary was awarded €42,000 for gender discrimination by the Workplace Relations Commission, in a ruling reported on 26 September 2025. The tribunal found the principal had a predisposition towards a male candidate when filling a temporary post at Kilmacrennan National School, near Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

The school denied discrimination. The WRC ruled that neither age nor religion was the basis for the treatment, finding that the discrimination was on gender grounds.
