Anthony Locke has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the murder of Christopher Jackson at his apartment on Prussia Street between 6 and 7 September 2012. The proceedings were reported on 5 November 2015. The trial was continuing before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury.
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis said Jackson had died from multiple stab wounds and that he found 70 stab wounds during the postmortem. One large chest wound had cut an artery and punctured his right lung. He agreed with Pádraig Dwyer SC, defending, that the knives shown in court were not serrated and there was no evidence that such a blade had been used. He also agreed that the large chest wound could have caused Jackson’s death, which could probably have occurred in minutes.
Deirdre Holton said she saw Anthony Locke moving kitchen furniture from Jackson’s flat into the yard about 9am on 7 September 2012. She said he told her he had been up all night and was doing a favour for Jackson’s partner, Barbara Staunton.
Det Sgt Kevin Daly said a taxi driver alerted gardaí after receiving calls and texts from Bernard Locke, the accused’s brother, about transferring a body. The detective described seeing a package shaped like a body in a wardrobe and preserving the flat as a crime scene.
