Andrzej Benko was found guilty of attempted murder in the Central Criminal Court; the proceedings were reported on 8 March 2014.

Benko had pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder Joanna Benko after hitting her head with a lump hammer at least three times. He said her drug taking had made life difficult for him and their son, and that he feared their son might find drugs.

The jury reached a unanimous guilty verdict after two hours and 40 minutes. Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy refused continuing bail and remanded Benko in custody for sentencing on April 7th, after defence counsel Remy Farrell SC said he needed to arrange care for Benko’s son and deal with household affairs.
