Alicia Edosa gets 7½ years for human trafficking

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Alicia Edosa’s human trafficking conviction appeal was dismissed by the Court of Appeal, which imposed a revised seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence. The judgment was reported on 16 February 2023.

Edosa had pleaded not guilty to two human trafficking counts, organising prostitution and 33 money-laundering offences. She was convicted after a trial at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court in June 2021, and Judge Francis Comerford originally jailed her for five years and eight months, backdated to April 2019.

Her appeal argued that deleted phone messages could have had evidential value; the prosecution disputed any failure to seek them. The Court of Appeal found the missing evidence did not warrant a directed verdict. The State’s sentence appeal succeeded because the original sentence was unduly lenient; the money-laundering sentences remained unchanged.
