An Algerian man lost his High Court challenge to deportation, reported on 19 June 2017. The court dismissed his claims and cleared the way for his removal from Ireland.
He had argued that returning to Algeria would expose him to torture and inhuman or degrading treatment because of his alleged imputed political opinion.
The man cannot be named for legal reasons. The court heard evidence that he had travelled between Ireland and Algeria since arriving in 2012, and had spent Ramadan there in 2016.
