Alan O’Connor was sentenced to five and a half years in prison, with the final six months suspended for two years, for rape at the Central Criminal Court on 17 January 2025. The offence occurred in Portarlington, Co Laois, on 17 June 2020.

Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo set a headline sentence of seven and a half years before accounting for mitigating factors. He cited O’Connor’s lack of relevant convictions, recent serious medical treatment and positive contributions to family and society.

The judge ordered O’Connor to follow all Probation Service directions after his release. O’Connor maintains his innocence and does not accept the jury’s verdict.
