Aisling Burke pleaded guilty to violent disorder. She appeared for sentencing at the Central Criminal Court on 16 January 2017. The proceedings were reported on 17 January 2017.
Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy said she would impose a five-year sentence, with the final four years suspended for two years. She adjourned imposing the sentence for one week to give Burke, a single mother, time to arrange childcare.
Burke and six men had originally been charged with murder and went on trial in October after pleading not guilty. The murder charges were dropped on the trial’s 15th day after they pleaded guilty to lesser charges and those pleas were accepted.
The case concerned the fatal assault on Dale Creighton at the footbridge over the Tallaght bypass between Saint Dominic’s Road and Greenhills Road in 2014. He died in hospital the following day from blunt force injury to his head and face.
