Aer Lingus pilot’s WRC case continues after appeal evidence on disciplinary process

Hearings continued at the Workplace Relations Commission on complaints by Aer Lingus pilot Declan McCabe, who says his demotion over an air-safety report was whistleblower penalisation. The airline concluded he failed in his reporting duties after an incident on a flight approaching Dublin, a finding he disputes.

On Thursday, an appeal officer said she treated the word “indicted” in a chief pilot’s email as a typo for “indicated”. She also acknowledged speaking with senior pilots during the appeal process without documenting those conversations or giving McCabe a chance to respond. McCabe’s counsel argued the discussions influenced the appeal; the officer denied bias. The WRC case continues.
