Irish dancing judge Adrian Stewart’s challenge to a three-year suspension and €1,000 fine over social media comments was briefly mentioned in the High Court before Ms Justice Siobhan Stack on 11 November 2022.
The comments concerned another judge at a qualifying tournament in Glasgow. Stewart says a woman posted them on his Facebook page, and that he deleted them shortly after discovering them. He said the woman furnished a sworn statement to the CLRG admitting she had made the posts and saying that he had defended the other judge.
The CLRG’s Disciplinary Committee issued Stewart a written warning in July 2021. After an appeal by its investigatory committee, the Appeals Committee imposed the three-year suspension and €1,000 fine.
Stewart is seeking to have the suspension and fine quashed, among other declarations. The judge granted permission for short notice of the injunction proceedings to be served on the CLRG, and the case was due to return to court later in November.
