Aaron Brady was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum 40-year term, at the Central Criminal Court on 14 October 2020 for capital murder. The court also imposed a 14-year sentence for the €7,000 Lordship Credit Union robbery, to run concurrently.

Brady was convicted of killing Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe during the robbery in County Louth on 25 January 2013. Mr Justice Michael White said the evidence showed Brady fired a shotgun at close range and then threatened another garda.

The sentencing followed Brady’s conviction in August after a trial lasting more than six months. He had denied capital murder and involvement in the robbery, but the jury rejected his account.
