An 86-year-old man’s 20-month sentence for indecent assault was upheld by the Court of Appeal on 3 July 2019. The offences involved two 15-year-old patients in the north east of the country.
He had been convicted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of indecently assaulting the two patients. The appeal court dismissed his argument that the sentences should run concurrently, finding no error in the original sentencing decision.
The man cannot be identified by order of the Court of Appeal. The court also noted his age and poor health, but concluded that these circumstances did not prevent imprisonment.
