By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The 32-year-old man had his appeal against life sentences for raping two children dismissed by the appeal court, with the outcome reported on 21 December 2015. The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping two girls in a flat in Athlone on 28 September 2013.

The court concluded that the abduction and rape of the two young girls made the offences exceptional. It found that the sentencing judge had not erred by imposing discretionary life sentences and dismissed the appeal.
