Woman tells High Court home has become 'living hell' due to excess noise

A woman from Lough Gowna in County Cavan has brought proceedings in the High Court against a manufacturing company and its alleged directors over noise pollution affecting her home. Ita Madden claims that excessive noise generated by Xtrupak Limited, which produces extruded thermoplastic sheeting, has caused severe disruption and health impacts to her family since the facility expanded its operations in January. She seeks court orders to restrain the company from commercial activity at its Lough View premises until noise mitigation works are completed to her satisfaction. Ms Madden alleges the noise levels exceed planning conditions and has submitted an expert report supporting her claims. The defendants indicated their preference to reach an arrangement rather than contest the injunction application, offering accommodation during remedial works expected to take several weeks. Mr Justice Brian O'Moore adjourned the matter to later in July, encouraging the parties to pursue settlement discussions.
