A man has been granted a Court of Appeal date to challenge his 20-year prison sentence for the serial sexual abuse of children in Cavan and Monaghan. The 53-year-old pleaded guilty in December 2016 to 52 sample charges of indecent assault and sexual assault relating to seven children in the same family. The abuse spanned 18 years from 1982 to 1999, occurring on a farm in the north of the country. The victim children were aged between seven and ten when the offending began. He was originally sentenced in March 2017 following his guilty pleas before the Central Criminal Court. At the Court of Appeal today, Mr Justice George Birmingham set the appeal hearing for 9th November.
