Leitrim man jailed for rape and sexual abuse of boy

A man from Carrigallen, County Leitrim, has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment following his conviction for the sexual abuse of a boy in his community. Damien Reilly, aged 39, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sexual assault, oral rape, and anal rape. The offences occurred between 1994 and 2000, when the victim was aged between nine and fourteen years old and Reilly was between seventeen and twenty-two. The court heard that the victim came forward to gardaí in 2014 after an encounter with Reilly in a local public house. During sentencing, Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy described the offences as grave and noted their serious impact on the complainant. The judge acknowledged Reilly's early guilty plea and early medical reports relating to a childhood stroke. Three years post-release supervision was also imposed.
