This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Nineteen individuals launched a High Court challenge to the State’s refusal to investigate Covid-19 deaths in nursing homes, reported on 26 July 2021.

They are challenging the Minister for Health’s 28 June decision and seek orders quashing it, damages, and declarations that an inquiry is required under the Constitution and European human rights law. The applicants say relatives died in nursing homes and allege failures in care and pandemic preparedness. The case was mentioned ex parte before Mr Justice Charles Meenan, who noted that medical evidence supporting some treatment claims had not been provided. He adjourned the matter to consider the application documents.
