Two men have been sentenced at the Special Criminal Court for their roles in moving a submachine gun during a criminal operation in 2020. Robert Redmond, aged 35, was jailed for six years, while Jamie Gray, aged 27, received five years and three months with the final year suspended for three years. Both men pleaded guilty to firearms offences under the Firearms Act 1964 relating to a RAK PM-63 submachine gun recovered from a vehicle on the M11 Southbound at Shankill, Dublin on 7 May 2020. The court heard the weapon was in poor condition with its serial number deliberately erased and had been reactivated after previous deactivation. Justice Paul Burns noted both defendants had sourced the weapon for others without intention to use it themselves. Redmond, who carries 97 previous convictions including a life sentence for murder, had engaged in sourcing the firearm. Gray, with 91 previous convictions mostly for road traffic offences, had become indebted through gambling addiction.
