The High Court has struck out legal proceedings brought by the late Peter Pringle against the State following his death earlier this year. Mr Pringle, who was originally sentenced to death for the 1980 murders of Gardaí John Morley and Henry Byrne during a bank robbery in Ballaghadreen, County Roscommon, had his conviction quashed in 1995 after spending fifteen years in prison. He subsequently initiated two separate actions, including a damages claim, alleging negligence and breach of constitutional rights due to non-disclosure of crucial evidence prior to trial at the Special Criminal Court. Before Mr Justice Rory Mulcahy on Thursday, counsel confirmed that Mr Pringle's family did not wish to continue the actions. The State did not object to the strike-out application. No orders were made regarding High Court costs, though costs orders previously made in Mr Pringle's favour by the Court of Appeal remain in place.
