Four men pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to their roles in a fraud scheme targeting investors in Custom House Capital Ltd between October 2008 and July 2011. Harry Cassidy, aged 67, former chief executive of Stepaside, County Dublin, John Whyte, aged 53, of Lucan, County Dublin, and Paul Lavery, aged 47, of Ballinode, County Monaghan, admitted conspiracy to defraud investors through deliberate misrepresentation of asset placement. John Mulholland, aged 73, of Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to negligence as a non-executive director. The court heard approximately €61 million in client funds was misappropriated, with €41 million subsequently recovered. One hundred ninety-seven victim impact statements were submitted. Judge Orla Crowe adjourned sentencing until 12 May, remanding all four defendants. A separate retrial is scheduled for 2025 for Ciara Kelleher, whose earlier jury failed to reach a verdict on fraud charges.
