At the Special Criminal Court in Dublin on 23 January 2023, Gerard Cruise and Paul Crosby, both of Rathmullan Park in Drogheda, pleaded guilty to facilitating the murder of 17-year-old Keane Mulready-Woods. The teenager disappeared on 12 January 2020 and was killed at Rathmullan Park. His remains were subsequently discovered dismembered across multiple locations in Dublin and County Donegal over the following weeks. Both men admitted their involvement under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, which concerns participation in activities of a criminal organisation with intent to facilitate serious offences. Detective Inspector Aidan McCabe provided evidence linking the killing to a criminal gang feud operating in Drogheda at the time. The primary suspect for the murder itself, Robert Lawlor, was shot dead in Belfast in April 2020. During the hearing, the victim's mother delivered an emotional address to the court, expressing the devastating impact of her son's death on their family. She spoke of the brutality inflicted upon him and the manner in which his remains were treated, describing the case as among the most horrifying in Irish criminal history. The treatment of the teenager's remains was later characterised by the presiding judge as disgraceful and inhuman. The court heard that Crosby had arranged to meet the victim and travelled with Cruise to the location where the murder occurred, with evidence establishing Crosby's higher level of involvement in the criminal enterprise. Mr Justice Tony Hunt adjourned sentencing to 13 February 2023. When sentencing was delivered on 10 February, Crosby received ten years imprisonment with the final six months suspended for two years, while Cruise was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years with the final six months suspended. The case subsequently saw further guilty pleas from individuals involved in the movement and disposal of the victim's remains.
