The Minister for Justice has rescinded a decision to transfer Logan Jackson to a UK prison following legal action brought by Tracey Tully, mother of boxer Kevin Sheehy whom Jackson murdered. Mr Sheehy, twenty years old, was killed at Hyde Road, Limerick on 1 July 2019. Ms Tully challenged the proposed transfer as unconstitutional, arguing it removed the State's jurisdiction over Jackson's sentencing and would extinguish her rights as a victim to be consulted on future parole applications under the 2017 Victims of Crime Act. Jackson, who is serving a life sentence, had applied for repatriation to England. Ms Tully was granted permission to bring judicial review proceedings against the Minister's decision. The case was resolved when the Minister reversed the transfer approval, allowing both parties to strike out the proceedings before Ms Justice Siobhan Phelan in the High Court. Legal costs were awarded to Ms Tully and Jackson by the State.
